CAN I KICK IT? (THE MEG 2: THE TRENCH)

© Warner Bros Jason Statham is hard. We know this because his marine environmentalist Jonas Taylor punched a giant shark in the first Meg . How can he top that? Well, the answer can be found in Ben Wheatley's 'Meg 2: The Trench'. © Warner Bros Essentially a smorgasbord of action sequences held together by a far fetched plot, the movie sees him and his mates taking on marine dumpers, giant sharks, gun toting villains, lizard like creatures and a huge octopus. Like its predecessor 'The Meg,'  'Meg 2: The Trench' is a supersize monster adventure. The only difference is this time  it has a hugely respected indie director at the helm - Englishman Ben Wheatley who has given us movies such as ' Kill List ,' ' A Field In England ,' ' Sightseers ,' ' Free Fire ,' ' High Rise ' ' Rebecca ' and ' Happy New Year, Colin Burstead '. Wheatley was a surprise choice to take over from Jon Turteltaub who directed the firs

HER STORY (REFRAMED: MARILYN MONROE)

©CNN It's hard to think of a film star with a greater hold on our imagination than Marilyn Monroe. In terms of 20th Century icons, only Elvis Presley is on a par.  Like Elvis, her first name is a brand that is instantly recognisable and her life still fascinates people born decades after her death. Without a doubt, some of this is due to her effervescent presence onscreen. © IHL Bubbly, highly sexual but much smarter than many give her credit for, Marilyn made men swoon but also cleverly subverted the stereotype of the dumb blonde. No star before or since has seduced the camera the way she did with the same guile. Maybe our enduring fascination with her is also down to a colourful personal life that saw her married to the baseball legend Joe Di Maggio and then one of America's most respected playwrights Arthur Miller. Her extramarital dalliance with President John F Kennedy adds to the intrigue. © United Artists Or maybe it stems from the mystery around her death at the age o

MARRIAGE STORY (YOU HURT MY FEELINGS)

© A24 & Amazon Prime  Looking for a movie this summer that doesn't have a single shot fired, a punch up or a car chase? Then head to Amazon Prime if you're living in the UK or Ireland.  Nicole Holofcener's 'You Hurt My Feelings' is the kind of relationship comedy drama that New York directors like Woody Allen or Noah Baumbach also excel at. Holofcener has been making movies and directing TV shows since 1991. © A24 & Amazon Prime Her first feature film was the acclaimed 1996 indie movie ' Walking and Talking ' with Catherine Keener, Anne Heche and Liev Schreiber. On the small screen, her TV credits include directing episodes of HBO's ' Sex and the City ,' ' Six Feet Under ' and NBC's ' Parks and Recreation '. However Holofcener is probably best known for her 2013 romantic comedy ' Enough Said ' with Julia Louis Dreyfus and James Gandolfini. A film about two middle aged people tentatively falling in love, it was

THE FACILITATOR (REMEMBERING MICHAEL PARKINSON)

When Michael Parkinson finally drew the curtain on his chat show career in 2007, he received a 12 minute standing ovation in the TV studio where it was filmed. A broadcasting stalwart for four decades, "Parky" was a national treasure in the UK and also adored in Australia, as the guest list for his final show proved. Sir David Attenborough, Michael Caine, Billy Connolly, David Beckham, Judi Dench, Jamie Cullum and Barry Humphries' Dame Edna Everage were among those final guests. However it was  Peter Kay  who stole the show, bringing along party hats, plastic plates, orange cordial, a Victoria Sandwich cake, Twister and Kerplunk for the festivities. Kay was a former warm up comedian for Parkinson's show and his ability to spot up and coming stars was one of the chat show host's canniest tricks. After all, it was on the recommendation of a garrulous taxi driver that he brought Billy Connolly onto his show, only for the Glaswegian comic to be propelled into national
